Dance Medicine-Performers Physiotherapy

In addition to offering physiotherapy appointments to the general public, Performers Physiotherapy also offers specialist assessments to dancers. Both Nicola and Leon are registered practitioners with Dance UK and have both lectured on Dance UKís Healthier Dancer Programme. Performers Physiotherapy is involved with research into fitness in dancers and injury prevention in the hope that this will further general knowledge in the areas of keeping dancers healthy and minimising time lost to injury.

Physiotherapy for Dancers

Performers Physiotherapy are able to offer advice to young dancers on various issues relating to dance and performance. We have extensive experience in the management of growth related problems and dance along with the treatment of dance related injuries. We can also offer advice regarding audition screening, often required for full time performing arts colleges.

Our physiotherapists have wide experience not only in treating the student dancer, but dance professionals from all different genres of dance. Previous clients have included dancers from the English National Ballet, various touring companies including "Spirit of the Dance", many independent dancers, various West End shows including "Wicked" & "Billy Elliott" and world reknowned choreographers.

Physiotherapy for Performers College Students

Performers Physiotherapy provides the on-site physiotherapy services for Performers College, one on the countryís leading performing arts colleges. Performers Physiotherapy Department is internationally recognised as among the best to be found in any performing arts college. Nicola and Leon have extensive experience of working with dancers and work as part of the team at Performers College. Liaising closely with both tutors and students alike, from the day of their audition right through until graduation and beyond, they are able to recommend the correct action required to reduce injury time, and more importantly, prevent injuries occurring in the first place.

Our affiliation with the Dancer Wellness Project based in the USA has enabled us to lead the way on the world stage with injury screening for the musical theatre dancer. Collaboration with the University of Wolverhampton has lead to opportunities to be involved in ground breaking research within musical theatre dancer health.

Having the physiotherapists so closely involved with the college means that in the unfortunate event of an injury occurring, timetables and activity can be modified to minimise the impact on our studentís training.

All our physiotherapists are also qualified to use Pilates as a clinical tool to assist with the treatment of any injuries, and by working closely with our in-house Pilates Instructor on rehabilitation programmes, injury time can be minimised. The ability to stay in shape whilst nursing an injury and learning to work correctly is of paramount importance to any dancer.

Physiotherapy for Evolution Foundation College Students

Performers Physiotherapy also provides the on-site physiotherapy and Pilates services to EFC. Close collaboration between the director of EFC and Nicola (Lead Physiotherapist & Clinic Owner) have ensured that best practice in injury prevention and injury management has been implemented and supports the students in preparation for full time further study..
